Our Story

Hey, I’m Rut — founder and a former “always-on” professional. Good Mud grew out of a season where I felt constantly switched on. My mind felt full, and even when I tried to rest, I struggled to really be present. Pottery became one of the practices that helped. I wasn’t particularly good at it in the beginning, but that wasn’t the point. Shaping clay gave my hands something to focus on and gently pulled me out of my head. It helped me pause, breathe, and pay attention to what was right in front of me.

What started as something personal slowly turned into something I wanted to share. I realised how many of us live in high-stress, screen-heavy environments where we rarely get to work with our hands. Pottery isn’t magic, but it is grounding. It asks you to slow down. You can’t rush it, and you can’t multitask while you’re doing it. That presence is where the magic is.

Good Mud was created to make that experience more accessible — no studio, no kiln, no pressure to be “artistic.” Just open the box, sit down, and begin. If it helps someone feel a little more calm, connected, or present in their day, then it’s doing exactly what I hoped it would.
